The European Union is reportedly on the verge of imposing a substantial fine of around 500 million euros (equivalent to approximately $539 million) on Apple, citing alleged breaches of EU competition laws. This revelation surfaced through sources undisclosed but cited by the Financial Times in an article published on Sunday.
As per the report from the Financial Times, the formal announcement of this significant fine is expected to materialize early in the forthcoming month.
In the preceding year, the European Commission had raised allegations against Apple, contending that the tech behemoth had engaged in activities that distorted competition within the music streaming market.
The focal point of these allegations revolved around the regulations enforced within Apple's App Store framework, which purportedly curtailed developers' ability to inform users about alternative purchasing options.
Despite the weighty implications of the Financial Times report, both the European Commission and Apple have opted to maintain silence and have refrained from issuing any official comments or statements regarding the matter.
